I am now afraid to write songs...anyone feels the same?
I've gotten to a point where any song I write would depress me. I'm
scared to write, but if I don't write I have nothing else worthwhile
to do...and that's also depressing.

Within the last 2 years, I discovered that writing songs is my
passion. I started late...at 23. I knew I love music but was not
exposed to it while growing up. I picked up the guitar when I was
around 20. Now I understand enough to be able to write shitty songs.
I've written around 20 songs now. Recently, I realized that when I
write songs I get depressed. I feel sad...and once I do, I'd try to
make my lyrics more positive. When I try to make it more positive, it
becomes unauthentic or fake. I'm feeling kinda screwed.
Here are my questions:
1. Am I the only one suffering from this shitty dilemma? Have you felt
depressed when writing your songs? Is this normal?
2. Should I give in to my emotions and write songs genuinely no matter
how depressed I get? or should I stop writing for now and wait till my
life improve?
3. I also need a mentor. I love writing music but I suck. I live in
Cambodia and have no idea where I can get a good mentor. I am mostly
self-taught and have little understand about music theories. I don't
have desires to make music my profession...I'd just like to be better.

Quality of music deteriorating?
Disclosure: I listen to nothing but rock music. I use that term rather
loosely, by rock I mean there's an electric guitar and someone may or
not be singing (so everything from Mogwai and Death Cab for Cutie to
Underoath and Poison the Well).

Disclosure: I am also nineteen years old.
What I mean is that a lot of music coming out now (that I've heard) is
utterly abhorrent. This seems to be happening across the board, but I
notice it more with rap and pop music. Take a ten second beat, loop it
fifteen times, add a person singing the same three lines and autotune
it to hell and you've got your typical rap song. Music nowadays just
seems to be lacking originality and imagination. All of these cookie
cutter "musicians" like Lil' Wayne and Lady Gaga are turning music
into nothing more than noise pollution.
I don't even care for how they influence people, because every genre
negatively influences people in one way or another. I know there is
good rap/hip hop music out there (Mos Def, Hieroglyphics, De La Soul)
and I can only assume there is good pop music, too, but I don't hear
that music. Likely, most people don't hear this music, either. Old rap
music used to be about making a positive image of yourself, defying
the stereotypes that plague ghetto youth. Today, we see morons like
Drake and Kanye West talk using describing their upbringing with such
hyperbole it's not even funny.
Rock music is the same thing, too. Bands and solo artists such as
Nickleback and Avril Lavigne are, to put it nicely, a disgrace to rock
music. At best, they are pop rock and at worst, not music at all. I
ask people who listen to that kind of music if they've ever heard of
Joe Satriani, Ramones, Nirvana, or even The Beatles and I'm lucky if
they even know one.
Yes, I fully understand that 50 Cent is not rap, I understand that and
agree with you, but most people don't, and that's what I'm trying to
address. Go ask your average kid who listens to rap to name one rapper
from the 80s/90s and you'll be lucky if they say Tupac or Notorious
B.I.G.
I've gotten rather off-track, but do you think music in general is
heading down the same downward slope? I'm in the minority, or so it
seems, of people who dislike mainstream music because it is bad.

did anyone notice this indiana jones inconsistency?
ok check this out indiana jones fans. unfortunately i pointed out
a major plot hole in the idiana jones' franchise. remember the
scene in "indiana jones the last crusade",when jones and the
austrian blonde were in the catacombs looking for the 2nd marker?
well,i regret to inform people that something ocurred in that scene
that
should have ended the franchise forever. this is regarding the part
where
harrison ford lights a torch to see in the dark. well pieces of the
cloth
used in wrapping the torch were falling into the petroleum pool
he and she were standing in,when searching for sir richard's tomb.
fire from the torch was continuously dripping into the oil,yet never
ignited.
however minutes later,a protector of the holy grail lights "1'' match
and toses it into the oil,and causes a massive confligration. what
gives?
indy most likely would've killed himself along with the blonde before

grail protectors even showed up. oooops, i guess lucas and spielberg
were hoping

nerd!

What do you think of my song?
I wrote this, but I am never good at judging my own work! Could
someone please have a play of this and see if it makes sense! FYI, I
find the first verse cringe but struggling to think of alternatives

I just got done watching the Ice age 1 and 2.
They both were really good.. but my question is .. you know the small
rat or squirrel, in the whole movie he tries to carry around the
"Coconut or whatever you call it", why does he try to catch or carry
that the whole time.. what is that thing actually? does he eat it? or
is it a shelter for him?
that part was the only confusing part.
